Thermal Efficiency
The system provides excellent insulation properties
with 'U' values of less than 0.25 W/m2K being
achievable, dependant on floor area and the exposed
perimiter of the dwelling. Table 1 shows the U values
which can be achieved for different P/A ratios.

Because the design of the EPS infill panels minimises
cold bridging at the floor joists the theoretical design
performance is delivered in practice. The very low U
values obtained with this system will assist in meeting
the more stringent thermal requirements of the new proposed
new part L of the Building Regulations. Alternatively
this increased level of floor insulation can be used
under the Target U value approach of the current Regulations
to facilitate a trade-off against a lower level of wall
insulation. Unlike some other insulation materials the
thermal performance of EPS does not degrade over its
lifetime.
Enviromnemtal Intergrity
Expanded polystyrene is non-toxic, resistant to attack
from bacteria and fungus and is non-irritant to handle.
The EPS panels are manufactured without the use of CFC's
of HCFC's which could contribute to the erosion of the
ozone layer. The high level of insulation provided by
the EPS insulation panels makes a positive contribution
in the reduction of CO2 emissions to the
atmosphere by reducing the amout of fossil fuel required
to heat the dwelling. The energy used in the production
of EPS (embodied energy) is saved many times over throughout
the life of the buildings in which it is installed.

Cost Savings
With this system the need for sheet insulation, chipboard
or additional screed finishes is eliminated, therefore
no 'second fix' costs are incurred. Overall construction
heights may also be reduced. Installation of the system
is fast and uncomplicated without the need for skilled
tradesmen.
Floor Joist Layout Design.
A full design service is available from Longley Concrete
who will provide easy to understand layout drawings
showing the most economic layout for the individual
dwelling.
Handling and Storage
The EPS panels are delivered to site suitably wrapped
in polythene. The packs should be stored under cover,
protected from direct sunlight, out of contact with
ground moisture and raised above ground level. Avoid
contact with solvents and organic materials such as
coal tar pitch or creosote.
