Preparation
The use of these floorbeams considerably reduces site
preparation time. Only the removal of top soil and vegetation
is required. No oversite concrete or additional surface
seal is necessary.
The void between the underside of the floor and ground
level must be at least 75mm or 150mm for clay and poor
ground conditions.
Installation
The wall bearings should be level, true and free of
debris.
The mortar must be cured and capable of supporting the
floor.
A nominal 100mm bearing is required for masonry and
75mm where the beams are supported on steel.
The beams should not project into the cavity.
For ground floor applications the beams must be placed
on previously bedded dpc's.
Access for service holes can be achieved by the removal
of infill blocks and making good with in-situ concrete.
Larger holes can be achieved with ATLAS trimmer units.
The beams should not be drilled or shot fired.
Grouting
After thorough cleaning and wetting the floor, a 4:1
sand/cement grout should be well brushed in. Only after
grouting does the floor form a safe working platform.

Handling
ATLAS flor beams should only be lifted near the ends
with the beams in an upright position.
Stacking
These beams should be stacked on battens on a hard
level surface ensuring that the battens are placed towards
the end of the beams directly under each other.
Upper Floors
Our beams are increasingly being used in upper floor
situations where improved sound insulation and fire
resistance are required. A floor mass of 300kg/m2
or 365kg/m2 can readily be achieved as also can
a nominal fire rating of one hour (click here
for details).
Floor Finishes
SCREED
50mm sand/cement screed (6:1) laid directly onto the
grouted floor is suitable for normal conditions. For
garages and other heavy non-domestic loadings an A98
mesh reinforcement should be incorporated into the screed.
Weight of finishes = 1.2kN/m2.
FLOATING FLOOR
20mm thick expanded polystyrene, closely butt jointed
is overlaid with a vapour barrier of 1000 gauge polythene
and then finished with floor grade tongue and groove
chipboard.
Weight of finishes = 0.16kN/m2.
